2022-2023 Display Updates

 Hello White Rock and welcome back to White Rock Lights.

My name is Gary Gumley and I am the founder of the White Rock Lights initiative.

I write and release this update exactly 5 years since the lights turned on for the very first time. December 7, 2019. It seems so long ago. So much has happened.

It is 3 long years since the City of White Rock rescinded the permit for the Society to stage the 2021 light display and decided to “do it their way”.

After choosing to remain “in the dark” since 2021, I have today made the difficult decision to speak out about my experiences with Volunteering in our community.

My motivation is to demonstrate how working collaboratively our community could have benefited enormously from a joint effort of the City of White Rock, The White Rock Business Improvement Association, the South Surrey Chamber of Commerce, the White Rock Museum Society, the Rotary Club of White Rock, the Semiahmoo First Nation, the Burlington Norther Railway and hundreds of businesses and volunteer organizations in South Surrey and White Rock.
